Acupuncture, fertility & IVF
Whether you are trying to get pregnant naturally for the first time, having difficulty conceiving second time around, undergoing IVF or are pregnant and suffering side effects, Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) offer a safe, natural and valuable support for you and your partner.
It can be used alongside any treatment you are already having or used as an effective alternative.
Fertility & conception
There is growing evidence that acupuncture has a big effect in helping women to get pregnant. Research suggests that it increases the chances of conception by as much as 65%. It has been shown to regulate hormonal imbalances, improve ovarian function and increase blood flow to the uterus therefore improving endometrial lining and egg implantation. It also significantly reduces stress and promotes relaxation. It is consequently effective for treating conditions including PCOS, endometriosis and high FSH or for promoting ovulation in women that don't ovulate. It is also very effective in treating women who have unexplained infertility. It offers an alternative before embarking on one of the Assisted Reproduction Techniques (ART) including IVF which can be both emotionally and financially draining. Advice is also given on diet and lifestyle changes in order to maximise the chances of conceiving.
Men & acupuncture
Acupuncture can also have an effect on sperm count, sperm motility and morphology.
Acupuncture & ART
Research has shown that women who undergo a course of acupuncture whilst having IVF treatment may increase their chances of a pregnancy from a 20-30% success rate to a success rate of over 40%. It is recommended to start treatment 2 to 3 months before starting IVF but starting as little as 1 month before can be just as successful. A treatment is usually given as near as possible before embryo transfer and another treatment given as near as possible after embryo transfer. Acupuncture can also be helpful when undergoing any of the other ART including IUI and ICSI.
